In Fond Memory of Melanie Beth Schaffner

Melanie Beth Schaffner February 21, 1969 – July 5, 2024 Writing a memorial for Melanie Schaffner, a former journalist for ROX Magazine, has been overwhelmingly difficult for me. Not only was she one of the publication’s most professional writers, but she was also a friend. In fact, because I lack the precise words to pen the perfect tribute, this is the type of assignment I would have passed along to her. SO LONG, AND THANKS FOR ALL THE KIX

by Sue Hodges Grant Forty years ago, KIX performed at a glorious rock ‘n’ roll dive in Essex, Md., called The Seagull Inn. As a journalism major at Loyola College with the burning desire to become a music journalist, I invited a few preppy classmates along to force them out from under their lite rock boulders. If you were in the audience, these indelible images are a part of your KIXtory that cannot be erased. If you were on the saturated lawn in the drenching rain or under the sold-out pavilion, you experienced firsthand the rock ‘n’ roll…

    I drive, therefore I travel.

This is my first post, and I have already driven over 3,000 miles to get to Graceland. No kidding! 3,000 Miles to Graceland! Good name for a movie!! I own a 2017 Prius with 190k miles on it and as long as it has life in it, it will get another 190k road miles on the odometer! I think my DNA possesses a need to drive as my father drove trucks in the military. I just drive to live. I drive, therefore I travel. I think Descartes might consider that a good turn of phrase! Join me on this journey. I am old, so I like the old stuff! Look…
